Loverboy Pudding Cake

From Two In The Kitchen, Bisquick, 1973

1 ½ cups Bisquick baking mix
⅓ cup sugar
1 egg
½ cup water or milk
2 oz semisweet chocolate
2 tbsp shortening
1 tsp vanilla
1 ½ cups water
⅔ cup sugar
6 oz semisweet chocolate pieces
1Blend baking mix, 1/3 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, the melted chocolate, shortening and vanilla in a large mixer bowl on low speed 1/2 minute, scraping bowl frequently. Beat 4 minutes on medium speed.
2Pour batter into greased and floured square pan 9x9x2 inches.
3Combine 1 1/2 cups water and 2/3 cup sugar in saucepan. Heat to boiling, stirring occassionally. Remove from heat; stir in chocolate pieces until melted.
4Pour chocolate mixture carefully over batter. Do not stir.
5Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. While hot, spoon cake into dessert dishes; spoon pudding over cake.
Yield: 9 to 12 servings
