Apple Topping
4 cups peeled, sliced apples
⅓ cup brown sugar
1 tbsp butter or margarine
3 tbsp water
Gingerbread
½ cup All-Bran
½ cup hot water
¼ cup light molasses
¼ cup shortening
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 cup sifted flour
1 tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp ground cloves
½ tsp ground ginger

Spread apples in a greased 10 x 6-inch pan or shallow casserole. Blend brown sugar and butter; sprinkle over apples. Add water.

Combine All-Bran, hot water, molasses, shortening, and egg; let stand about 5 minutes.

Sift together flour, soda, salt, spices, and sugar. Add All-Bran mixture, stirring until combined. Pour batter over apples.

Bake in moderate oven (350° F.) about 50 minutes or until apples are tender.

Serve warm or chilled with pudding, sauce, or cream, if desired.

I used to make stuff with All Bran a lot. It was seen as “health food” back in the day.
