Jeez… Becky from Iowa on March 18, 2014 at 1:39 am I have to be honest. I studied culinary history in graduate school (back in the ’80’s) in a “dusty tome” sort of way–but my sources were usually secondary and I maintained a strict academic distance from the subject matter, in most cases. I stumbled on your blog tonight, and posted mocking links on my Facebook page (I mean, “Ewwwww. Look at this gross food! This poor, demented soul…”), but then I went and read the excellent interview with you Collector’s Weekly, and I had an epiphany: I take it back. I’m in awe of you; really, I am! I read this interview and I realized that you are the Indiana Jones of Bad Fifties Food, willing to place yourself in danger, risk poisoning husband, incur the wrath of Foodies everywhere, in your passion to faithfully explore–primary source materials! Field work! You get your hands dirty!– the worst excesses of nasty, “modern” cooking. Liver mousse with canned green beans! Chocolate cake with tomato soup! You are intrepid, brave and determined, leaving the ivory tower of academic research to follow your research to the conclusive end, no matter where that might lead. 😀 Bravo, Brave Soul. I salute you.
