Devil's Food Cake
⅔ cup butter or shortening
2 ¼ cups sifted cake flour
2 cups sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 ¼ cups milk
3 eggs
3 oz unsweetened chocolate
1 tsp red food coloring
Frosting
6 oz softened cream cheese
½ cup soft butter
6 ½ cups sifted powdered sugar
¼ tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
4 oz melted chocolate
4 tbsp milk
Devil's Food Cake
1Stir butter or shortening to just soften. Sift in dry ingredients. Add ½ cup of the milk; mix till all flour is dampened. Beat vigorously 2 minutes. Stir in remaining milk, the eggs, melted chocolate, and 1 teaspoon red food coloring. Beat vigorously 2 minutes longer. Bake in paper-lined 8x8x2 inch square pans in a 350-degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until done. Cool 5 minutes and remove from pans. Fill and frost with Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting. Garnish with halved chocolate mints, walnut halves and a large candle for the rocket.

2Cream butter with softened cream cheese. Add powdered sugar and beat well. Add salt, vanilla, and chocolate. Add milk until spreading consistency. (I used all 4 tablespoons)
