I know it is the middle of January, but Happy 2020 everyone! I hope that you all have a happy and healthy year ahead of you. This year the blog is finally going to be getting its redesign I have been promising, turning it into a blog AND a vintage recipe archive. Since we are getting all new year-sentimental, I’ve realized over the last few years that there is no way I am going to be able to test all of the recipes I have in my collection, so I’m starting to take some steps to make my collection more available to all my readers and to make myself available to squeal excitedly over all of the things that you guys are cooking up in your kitchens. The first part of that is the upcoming vintage recipe archive addition to the blog, and the second part is the Mid-Century Menu Group on Facebook. This group is turning out to be a wonderful, supportive community that cheers on everyone’s cooking and delights in shared vintage cooking treasures. So I encourage you to check it out if you want to dip your toe into some mid-century cooking, or if you are an accomplished cook who just wants to share with people who truly appreciate it.

Well, now that that sentiment is out of the way, we can get back to what you are all really here for. Tom drinking pickle beer.

We visited Tom’s sister in Texas over the holidays, and while we were there we enjoyed many culinary delights that Texas is known for: Breakfast tacos, barbecue on a tray, and…pickle beer.

The Best Maid Sour Pickle Beer is made by the Martin House Brewing Company. Martin House is down the street from the Best Maid Pickle factory, so it was decided that it was a good idea to pour some pickle brine into beer and then sell it. The company says that the result is a “refreshing” and “pickly-sour salty” brew that is meant for hot summer days.

And when Tom saw it, he was very excited to taste it.

“So? Does it taste refreshing?”

“It tastes like pickle brine with a little beer. I like it.”

The Verdict: Pickle

From The Tasting Notes –

This was very much just drinking pickle juice. It wasn’t just beer with a hint of pickle. It was pickle juice with a hint of beer. I think that this beer would be best either in or drinking in tandem with a Bloody Mary. Tom, who loves pickled things, thought the beer was just fine on it’s own and was sad that we couldn’t pack some into our suitcase.

Happy New Year!!
