My dad would make something very similar for us four kids if my mom happened to be away at supper time. We called them francheezies. Slice hot dog part way through, stuff cheese slice in, wrap in bacon, secure with a toothpick and broil. Yummy!! I remember one time he got them prepared for broiling, then left the kitchen to do something else. When he returned, the francheezies had disappeared. Turns out our dog ate them, toothpicks and all. It’s a fun family memory.

I made these as-is for dinner tonight. I thought they would be fun … I did a “campfire” dinner, with these, baked beans, coleslaw and corn on the cob, as a reminder of summer on one of the coldest days of winter so far. My husband thought they were a big hit, and I think the kids will like them when they get a little older and don’t have to eat them deconstructed.
