Planetary Frankfurters

Good Housekeeping App Book001

When we left the Mid-Century Menu cliffhanger last week, things looked grim for our heroes. Would the Planetary Frankfurters be a hit? What are Carra-Chees? Would our heroine be able to make everything in time for her Superbowl party?  And would anyone care who won the Superbowl?  These, and many other questions are answered this week on…

The Mid-Century Menu!!

Duh-duh-daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

This week, our hero, Tom, is once again subjected to the terror that is Good Housekeeping’s Appetizer Book! Half cookbook, half hideous multi-armed candle from another planet, the Appetizer Book gave us one heck of an atomic snack last week. The insidious Cracker Kabobs were simple, but their construction was out of this world.

Ahem.

This week, the space madness continues with…Planetary Frankfurters….

*Cheesy 1950’s monster movie music*

Dreamed up in deep space, these snacks have a powerful combination of pure hot dog and cheese spread at their core…

…and are draped in a ring of egg-white evil!

*Gasp* “Raw” hot dogs!

(You know they are fully-cooked, right?)

Terrifying!

Because our heroes were afraid to face these planetary wonders alone, the ingredients were mixed with those of the Cracker Kabobs.

On their own, they were just too powerful.

Do you doubt us? Then feast your eyes on this amazing preparation, accompanied with Batman-style action words!

“It tastes like a hot dog.”

The Verdict: Tasted like hot dogs. Treacherous and oozing. Hilarious on the plate and messy to make.  I didn’t chill the hot dogs before slicing them (because I am a risk-taker, baby!) and it was a very oozy when slicing. I recommend refrigeration before slicing. But a good appetizer for an atomic cocktail party!

Wow, what an exciting and out-of-this-world conclusion to our Superbowl feast!

Oh, and what are Carra-Chees?  Hot dogs dipped in cheese sauce and then in caraway seeds. Seriously.
